Why do I need a Well Women Exam?

A well-woman exam, which is usually recommended annually gives women an opportunity to discuss their reproductive health with their gynecologist. It usually includes a breast and pelvic exam, discussion for the need of mammogram, as well as possibly a Pap smear depending on age.  It’s also an opportunity for a woman and her doctor to assess individual needs and answer any questions about sexuality, stress, parenting, family planning and hormones.

What is a Pap Smear?

A Pap Smear is a test of cells of the cervix. The cervix is the opening between the vagina and the uterus. The Pap test looks for cells that are not normal and can lead to cervical cancer. Regular Pap Smear helps detect pre-cancer cells and allows for early treatment.

How long does it take to get the Pap Smear result ?

Usually about 2 - 4 weeks. As soon as we receive your Pap Smear report, we will text or mail you the result. You will be contacted by phone if a follow up appointment is needed.

Does a biopsy hurt?

A cervical biopsy will cause mild discomfort but is usually not painful; you may feel some pressure or cramping.  A vaginal/vulvar biopsy is the biopsy of the lower portion of the vagina or the vulva can cause pain, so your doctor may administer a local anesthetic to numb the area.

How long do I have to wait to see Dr. Lee once I arrived?

The waiting time varies. It ranges from 15 - 30 mins. Waiting time may be extended due to special accommodations because of Covid 19.

Do I have to pay my copay to see Dr. Lee?

It depends. Every insurance is different. Please consult with your insurance or check with our receptionist for specifics.

When is the next available appointment?

We usually scheduled 2 - 4 weeks in advance. Please call our office to check as we have cancellation from time to time so you may get an appointment sooner than you expect.

Does Dr. Lee have a different location?

No. Dr. Lee sees his patients at 2440 S. Hacienda Blvd #116, Hacienda Heights, CA 91745 only.

FAQs - Obstetrics

When should I start prenatal care?

As soon as you find out about your pregnancy, you should call your OB/GYN doctor. However, the best time to see your obstetrician is when you are around 8 - 10 weeks pregnant. This is also the time when the initial ultrasound can identify the fetal pole with heart tone to establish an accurate due date. Also, there are many other important conversation such as reviewing medical history, current medications, and nutrition.

But better yet, it is better for patients to have preconception counseling to improve future pregnancy outcome.

Which hospital does Dr. Lee deliver at?

Dr. Lee delivers primarily at Emanate Queen of the Valley Hospital and occasionally at San Gabriel Valley Medical Center.

Why do I have to give a urine sample during every prenatal visit?

Two common complications in pregnancy are gestational diabetes and preeclampsia, both of which have markers that show up in your urine. That's why at each and every prenatal visit, you'll have to give your doctor a urine sample.

Do I have to call Dr. Lee once I get to the hospital when I am in labor?

Usually not. The nurse will check and monitor you and your baby first and call Dr. Lee for medical orders.

I am worry about pain, can I choose to deliver via C-Section instead?

Although traditional labor and vaginal delivery may seem scary and unpredictable, vaginal delivery usually carries fewer risks than C-Section. A patient can return home sooner and recover quicker with a vaginal delivery. Usually the use of epidural can provide patient with excellent pain relief during childbirth. There are circumstances when C-Sections are recommended. Please share your concern with Dr. Lee so he can discuss options with you.
